Today I would like to share with you a story of surprise marriage proposal that I had the pleasure to photograph past summer on Cape Cod. As you may know, marriage proposals can be quite a nerve-wracking experience. That is why I immediately started creating our game-plan after Patrick contacted me to capture his moment. Patrick was going to take Leigh out for a dinner at The Ocean House Restaurant in Dennis Port. This restaurant is overlooking Nantucket Sound and has an award-winning cuisine as well as a beach bar with its laid-back vibe. We decided that after the dinner Patrick would take Leigh to the beach bar, which offers a beautiful ocean view and live music. Afterwards, the couple would go to the beach to see the jettis. That’s where Patrick would make the proposal. My goal was to be unnoticed and keep the element of surpise.

Long story short, the important day is finally here. Me and Patrick are exchanging updates via text to coordinate the time and current location. I can see them slowly moving down the beach towards the jetty. They do not look at me, and Leigh has no idea what is going to happen to her in a few moments. I move forward with my camera acting like a tourist and taking pictures of the ocean. Suddenly, Patrick kneels and presents a beautiful ring. I am ready to capture Leigh’s emotions. The surprise marriage proposal happened exactly as planned. She said yes.
